Bockley Gallery is pleased to present Other Pictures of paradise, our fourth solo exhibition with Pao Houa Her, open from Friday, February 6–Saturday, April 4, 2026.
Across time and place, paradise has been imagined as an ideal condition; its etymologies traverse earthly gardens, celestial afterlives, and diverse ecosystems. Other Pictures of paradise by Pao Houa Her brings together selections from two photographic series–Pictures of paradise and The Imaginative Landscape. Across these bodies of work, Her acknowledges the coloniality of early photographic histories and practices with trickster intention to confuse hierarchies and rescript aesthetics of subjectivity and authenticity. From full color, mural-scaled lenticular landscapes to an intimate black and white portrait, Her honors paradise as a profoundly personal and shifting imaginary.
