2026 United States Artists Fellow Eric-Paul Riege

Eric-Paul Riege was named one of six visual artist fellows to receive the 2026 United States Artists (USA) annual fellowship of $50,000 unrestricted cash award, professional services and other resources. 

United States Artists (USA) is a Chicago-based arts funding organization that honors artists and cultural practitioners at all career stages, in all disciplines, throughout all of the United States and its jurisdictions.

Riege (Diné) is an artist working in woven sculpture, installation, collage, and performance. Bringing together Diné spirituality with personal interpretations and cosmologies, Riege honors animacy of story, materiality, and intention. While paying homage to generations of weavers in his family, his work generates spaces of sanctuary for the present and future.

Riege’s recent solo exhibitions include ojo|-|ólǫ́ at the Bell Gallery at Brown University, Providence (2025) traveling to Henry Gallery in Seattle (2026); iiZiiT [3]: RIEGE Jewelry + Supply at Canal Projects, New York (2025); Hammer Projects: Eric Paul Riege at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2022–2023); and Hólǫ ́—it xistz at the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (2019). His recent group exhibitions include the 24th Biennale of Sydney in Australia (2024); Indian Theater: Native Performance, Art, and Self-Determination (2023–2026); Prospect.5 Triennial in New Orleans (2022), and the Toronto Biennial of Art (2022). His work is in the collections of the National Gallery of Art, Hammer Museum, ICA Miami, LACMA, Denver Art Museum, Montclair Art Museum, and Forge Project, among others. He received his BFA in Studio Art and Ecology, with a minor in Navajo Language and Linguistics, from the University of New Mexico. Riege was born and is based in Na’nízhoozhí (Gallup, New Mexico) and is a member of the Charcoal Streaked Division of the Red Running Into the Water clan.
