Bockley Gallery to represent Kite

Bockley Gallery is pleased to announce representation of Kite (Suzanne Kite).

The practice of Oglála Lakȟóta artist Kite investigates contemporary Lakȟóta ontologies. Working across media, often in collaboration with family and community members, her research-creation involves computational media, sculpture, installation, experimental sound and video, performance, and writing. As a recent focus, she develops sculptures generated by dreams and body interfaces for machine learning driven performance. 

Kite’s 2025 solo exhibitions include Wičháȟpi Owihaŋke Waníča Kiŋ (Infinite Collapsing Star), Bockley Gallery, Minneapolis, MN; List Projects 31: Kite, MIT List Visual Art Center, Cambridge, MA; and Kite and Wíhaŋble S’a Center: Dreaming with AI, Museum of Contemporary Native Art, Sante Fe, NM. Also in 2025, Kite participated in the 4th Thailand Biennale, Phuket and 24th Paiz Biennale, Guatemala. Other recent group presentations include The Land Wants You, a film program Whitney Biennale, NYC (2024) and Indian Theater: Native Performance, Art, and Self-Determination since 1969, CCS Bard Hessel Museum, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY (2023). Her performances have been hosted by House of World Cultures, Berlin; 36th São Paulo Biennale, Brazil; Serpentine Gallery, London; EMPAC, eflux, and Vera List Center in NY, and many more.

As a published academic, Kite’s research appears in The Journal of Design and Science (MIT Press) with the award winning article, “Making Kin with Machines,” co-authored with Jason Lewis, Noelani Arista, and Archer Pechawis (2018). Recent awards include Creative Capital Award, Ruth Award, Forge Fellowship, USA Fellow Award, and Creative Time (with Alisha B. Wormsley).

Kite holds a BFA, music composition, CalArts; MA, music/sound, Bard College’s Milton Avery Graduate School; Ph.D., Fine Arts, Concordia University, Montreal. At Bard College, she is Director of Wihanble S’a Lab, Distinguished Artist in Residence, Assistant Professor of American and Indigenous Studies, and Co-PI and Co-Director of Abundant Intelligences Research Program.

Born in 1990, Sylmar, CA, Kite lives in Catskill, NY. She is an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
