Dyani White Hawk and Sky Hopinka to Create Installations for New JFK Terminal
Dyani White Hawk and Sky Hopinka will create permanent installations for the new Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport, alongside 16 other artists, reports the New York Times. A collaboration between the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the Public Art Fund, the project expands on previous public art commissions that have been installed in new terminals at La Guardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. The upcoming terminal is scheduled to open in 2026.
The commissioned artworks will include 10 large glass mosaic floor medallions, one of which will be created by White Hawk, in addition to those by other artists such as Candida Alvarez, Kambui Olujimi, and GaHee Park. Hopinka will be one of several artists producing wall works, while others will create sculptural installations designed to hang from the ceiling.
