Dyani White Hawk featured in Making Their Mark at the Berkeley Art Museum

Dyani White Hawk’s mixed media artwork Evening Grand Entry (2023) is currently on view in Making Their Mark: Works from the Shah Garg Collection at the Berkeley Art Museum, through April 20, 2025. The exhibition presents more than 70 artworks from the Shah Garg Collection, which highlights the work of women artists. Curated by Cecilia Alemani and Margot Norton, the show draws connections between nearly 80 years of artistic practice from the postwar era to today, highlighting intergenerational exchange and influence between women artists.

Evening Grand Entry consists of oblong glass beads, acrylic, and synthetic sinew on a nearly 8 foot tall aluminum panel. The title references the grand entry of a pow wow, in which an elder leads a parade of dancers into the arena to open the pow wow session.

Making Their Mark presented the collection for the first time in New York City in November 2023, after the publication of a book about the collection that included contributions from curators and contemporary women artists. The Berkeley Art Museum is the first museum on a nationwide tour that will be followed by the Kemper Art Museum (September 12, 2025–January 5, 2026).
