Stuart Nielsen

In a practice that utilizes drawing, printmaking, painting, and sculpture, Stuart Nielsen pairs intuitive and researched-based investigations of color, geometric form, and pattern. 

Nielsen’s art has been featured in solo exhibitions at Bockley Gallery, the Weisman Art Museum, and Colorado State University, among others. His work has been exhibited in group shows at the Milwaukee Art Center, Denver Art Museum, and Minneapolis Institute of Art. A two-time recipient of a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship, Nielsen has also received a Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship. His work is in the collections of numerous public and private institutions including the Walker Art Center, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, IBM, Target Corporation, US Bank, and General Mills. Nielsen’s large-scale commissioned projects can be seen throughout the country.

Nielsen was born in Evanston, Illinois, and lives and works in the Twin Cities, where he has been based most of his life.
