The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has named Pao Houa Her, along with 170 other artists, scientists, writers, and scholars, a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow. Recognized for their “prior achievement and exceptional promise,” these individuals have “followed their calling to enhance all of our lives, to provide greater human knowledge and deeper understanding,” said foundation president Edward Hirsch. The Blaine-based Her is one of four Minnesotans in this year’s class, including artists Kelly Nipper and Tetsuya Yamada. Writer Kao Kalia Yang—who last year wrote a poetic essay in response to Her’s Walker Art Center solo show—was also named a 2023 fellowship recipient.
